Clan McGregor.

The McGregor name is one of Scotland's oldest, with ancient royal connections going back to 966 AD – hence the proud clan motto, “Royal is my Race” (visit the Clan McGregor website for more information). Although the name is currently distinguished by one of the most famous living Scots, actor Ewan McGregor, the clan has, along the way, had some serious brushes with authority.

In 1603, the Scottish Privy Council even abolished the name entirely, with the aim of exterminating the clan. This sad situation continued off and on for nearly two centuries, with many of the clan adopting the alternative surname “Ross”. Notorious rebels like Rob Roy McGregor did little to help the cause, but the name was finally reinstated in 1775.

Today, as Jo and Angie McGregor are happy to confirm, the McGregor are 100% legit once more!
